Press Release on Danish Support to Kenya

16.10.2015  11:25
H.E. Mette Knudsen, Ambassador of Denmark to Kenya, visited Mombasa 13-14 October 2015 to meet with prospective partners of the Danish Kenya Country Programme 2016-2020.

In this connection there have been a number of misinterpretations in the press regarding the planned Danish support for Kenya, which the Embassy would hereby like to correct.

Denmark is currently finalising the planning of the new programme. Depending on the approval later in the year by the Danish authorities, Denmark will support Kenya within a total budget of 970.5 million DKK which is approximately equivalent to 15 billion KSH.
The programme supports the implementation of Vision 2030 in three thematic areas:

- green growth and employment, through support to Government institutions and through cooperation with the private sector for sustainable use of energy and natural resources and job creation;

- governance, through on budget support to public financial management reform, implementation of devolution, support to the Judiciary, elections and civil society including in the area of peace and stability

- health, through on budget support to Ministry of Health and to Counties’ health facilities at level 2 and level 3 as well as support to reducing maternal mortality in the most marginalised counties

The programme will be implemented in cooperation with the Government of Kenya and County Governments as well as a range of private sector and civil society partners.
