Minister Mogens Jensen visits Westgate Community Conservancy

On Thursday 15th August 2014, Danish Trade and Development Cooperation Minister Mogens Jensen visited Westgate Community Conservancy in Samburu County – Kenya.


During this visit he meet members of the local pastoral community who together with the Northern Rangeland Trust ( are working to address the declining health of rangelands in the conservancies through holistic rangeland management. During this visit, the Minister and his delegation gained insights on how improved rangeland management with planned grazing can reduce vulnerability to climate change in 12 conservancies in northern Kenya.


Danida’s support of DKK 7.5million has enhanced local commuity capacity to improve their livelihoods through enterprise development and improved relations between various ethnic communities due to reduced conflicts over grazing land and water resources. The delegation was joined in this visit by Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary for Environment, Water and Natural Resources – Prof. Judi Wakhungu and the Samburu Deputy Governor Hon. Josephat Lemarkat.
