Update on the Strategic Sector Cooperation’s food-project in Kenya: Food safety and food quality workshop on July 6th 2016

The pilot project for the Danish Strategic Sector Cooperation (SSC) Programme on food safety in Kenya’s dairy and horticulture based food sectors is reaching its end. It is supposed to lead to a long-term regulatory cooperation within the two sectors.

On July 6th a workshop was held in Thomson Falls as part of the preparations for the SSC Programme. The workshop brought together all the important institutions and stakeholders including the Governor of Nyandarua County Government, Daniel Waithaka Mwangi, as well as the PS of Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, and Fisheries, Dr. Andrew Tuimur. The workshop was planned following a delegation visit to Denmark in June including a meeting with the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration. The workshop built upon and discussed five areas of SSC intervention developed during the visit in Denmark.

There was a joint positivity towards the project, and a consensus to continue the cooperation and development of the SSC Programme on food safety within the two sectors. The Food Project is expected to be implemented in October 2016.
