Open Procedure: Baseline study for food safety in the dairy and plant based food sector - Kenya

30.06.2016  10:07

Description:

In 2015 Denmark launched a new global programme named 'Partnering with Denmark' focusing on building mutual public sector partnerships around the globe - involving private sector competencies and focusing on different high potential Strategic Sector Cooperation (SSC) projects. In Kenya two dedicated Growth Counsellors work with environment and food respectively. The purpose of the food-project is to provide assistance to the relevant Kenyan authorities to strengthen food safety in Kenya and build their capacity particular in the important sectors of the fresh fruit and vegetables and dairy production, as well as to develop trade and business relations and cooperation in the food sector between Kenya and Denmark.
The objective of this assignment is the preparation of a baseline study presenting and analyzing the Kenyan dairy and plant food sectors focusing on the proposed areas for cooperation as expressed in the Concept Note attached, as well as providing an overview of relevant ongoing or upcoming related food safety projects and donor initiatives in Kenya. This is to ensure that we avoid an overlap of activities and to secure possible synergies. It is required that the consultant to carry out this assignment has a thorough insight in the Kenyan society, public and private sector and is familiar with the main food safety challenges in the two sectors in question. The report need to be targeted to the overall purpose of developing a long term sector cooperation between Denmark and Kenya.

The estimated duration of the study is approximately 40 working days from early July to end of August. The maximum budget will be DKK 96.000.
