Danish Business Network

Launched in April 2014, the Danish Business Network in Kenya is a platform for companies related to Denmark (mainly subsidiaries) and Danes working in Kenyan and international businesses. The objective of the network is to boost the impact of Danish business in Kenya.

The Embassy facilitates the Danish Business Network and member companies are encouraged to provide additional input and activities. We welcome all nationalities, as long as your business or you yourself have ties to Denmark. Current membership: 60 (August 2019)

What's in it for members?

  • At least four networking events a year, thematic and substantive
  • Access to a vast network of Danish and Kenyan professionals across sectors
  • Invitations to Embassy events and initiatives
  • Influence on the Network's activities

The Trade Council offers a yearly membership to the Danish Business Network in Kenya at a cost 20,000 Kshs (approx. 1,000 DKK) covering operations and administration. The yearly fee covers April 1 to March 29. Additional costs can apply for individual events, to cover venue, meals, transport, etc.

2025:

  • Event at Residence with Sustainability Presentation – Event at Residence including a presentation to sustainability and value chain advisory by the TC Team
  • Event at the Embassy and Political Economy Presentation by prof. Karuti Kanyinga – Event at the Embassy including presentation on Political Economy by our Governance and Health team and their good friend prof. Karuti Kanyinga.

2024:

  • Visit to BidCoro – Event hosted at BidCoro facility including presentation on activities in the region
  • Visit to Karen Blixen Coffee – Event hosted at Karen Blixen Coffee Farm
  • Visit to Danish Industry – Event hosted at Danish Industy offices including a presentation of their work in Kenya

2023:

  • Event at Embassy – Event hosted at the embassy with presentation and introduction of new ambassador Stephan Schønemann

2022:

  • Event at Residence with Presentation by Prof. Karuti Kanyinga– Event hosted at the residence with Prof. Karuti Kanyinga during a presentation regarding the political climate in Kenya incl. the upcoming elections
  • Event at Residence with Presentation by IEA KENYA – Event hosted at the residence including a presentation by the institute of Economic Affairs (IEA) on Kenya’s economy

2021:

  • Event at Residence with Presentation by KEPSA – Event hosted at the residence including a presentation on the private sector by Kenya Private Sector Alliance (KEPSA)
  • DBN Event at Shiriki House – Event at Shiriki House and an introduction to their facilities and location
  • Event at Residence with Presentation by TMEA - Event hosted at the residence including a presentation by Trademark East Africa (TMEA) on current trade specific issues, incl. Covid-19, regional situation and opportunities

2020:

  • Event at Residence with Presentation by new ambassador – Event at Ambassador’s Residence and a welcome by the new ambassador Ole Thonke.

2019:

  • Visit to Novo Nordisk offices – Presentation by Novo Nordisk on their activities and work with diabetes in the region.
  • Visit to Grundfos – Presentation by Grundfos to learn more about their pumps and water solutions.

2018:

  • Visit to Mærsk Logistics Kenya offices – Presentation by Mærsk Logistics Kenya on their activities.
  • Breakfast Meeting at the Danish Ambassador’s Residence – Presentation by the IMF Country Representative on the economic outlook for Kenya.
  • Nordic Business Meeting – Meeting with Nordic Embassies together with Innovation Norway East Africa, Business Sweden, Danish Trade Council and Business Finland on how new technology and innovations among the Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) can contribute to the success of the Manufacturing Future of Kenya.
  • Visit to BIDCORO Africa Limited – a joint venture between CO-RO (a Danish Company) and BIDCO Kenya Limited, hosted the Danish Business Network at their factory for a site visit and company presentation.
  • Networking Cocktail Event at Ambassador’s Residence –  The Ambassador of Denmark H.E. Mette Knudsen hosted the Danish Business Network Members at the Residence, at which the Danish Embassy's engagements with Kenya Climate Innovation Centre (KCIC), Trade Mark East Africa (TMEA) and the Business Advocacy Fund (BAF) were presented.

2017:

  • Nordic Business Seminar at Capital Club together with Innovation Norway East Africa, Business Sweden and FinPro Cooperation on how to adopt good business practices and be profitable in Kenya within the context of the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

2016:

  • End year Lunch at the Residence - Kwame Owino, CEO, Institute of Economic Affairs, gave a presentation on the Economic outlook for Kenya in 2017, and Trade Mark East Africa shared what they do and what opportunities are available for organisations in their projects.
  • African Coffee Roasters factory visit – An investment from COOP Danmark and IFU led to the establishment of the first large industrial coffee roasting and packaging facility in Kenya.  DBN members toured the facilities followed by a cupping session at the end to make people appreciate the art of good coffee.
  • Focus on the upcoming general election with the theme being “the role of the private sector in the Kenyan elections“. Carole Kariuki, CEO KEPSA (Kenya Private Sector Alliance) made a short presentation on the initiatives by the private sector in Kenya to ensure a peaceful election period in 2017.

2015:

  • Launch of Radisson Blu by the Danish Minister for Foreign Affairs and three other Nordic ministers; Lunch at the Residence to introduce Ambassador Mette Knudsen; Swedish-Danish UN business seminar at the Residence; Full day at the Port of Mombasa with Mærsk Line and visit to Rabai Power Plant run by BWSC.
