Dairy Conference 2019

The Danish Embassy in Nairobi is planning a conference on 23rd October 2019 focusing on business opportunities with the Kenyan dairy industry.

The conference primarily targets Danish companies supplying to the dairy industry and is arranged in a cooperation with the Kenya Dairy Board (KDB), the Nairobi based Eastern and Southern African Diary Association (ESADA) and in close cooperation with the Embassy’s Strategic Sector Cooperation with focus on the dairy sector by the Sector Counsellor for Food.

In Kenya, supply to the dairy industry ranges from cattle breeding, feed, milk collection, cooling and storage, to architecture and design of dairies and naturally the processing of dairy products, since the industry is traditionally highly integrated.

The Kenyan dairy industry is in a positive development with a few major dairies and a number of medium sized and smaller dairies – more than 30 dairies in total. There is a growing demand for milk, cream, cheese, yoghurt, butter, ice cream and also low fat dairy products from the growing middle class in Kenya.

The members of ESADA will be invited for the dairy conference and in addition we shall also invite independent milk collection centres and other players in the value chain.

The full day conference will focus on challenges and business opportunities with the Kenyan dairy industry, with presentations from the Principal Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Irrigation, the Managing Director, Kenya Dairy Board and the Vice Director, Directorate of Veterinary Services, amongst other key speakers. The afternoon session will allow for a B2B speed dating session at which the Danish companies will have the opportunity to meet with representatives from the Kenyan dairy industry and other key players in the value chain.

On 24th October 2019 we plan a site visit to two Kenyan dairies at which participating Danish companies may obtain hands on information about challenges and opportunities for the Kenyan dairy industry.

There will also be an opportunity to arrange follow up meetings for participating Danish companies on 25th October 2019, which is meanwhile not included in the programme.
